Before using PilotLog for the first time, you should configure the program to match your circumstances.

You should select Tools->Preferences from the menu, and set your preferred options on the first tab (general settings).

You will find small help buttons throughout the program that offer more detailed information on certain options.

If you fly commercially, you must also set up the second tab (duty time & limitations) before adding any flights to your log. Duty logging is automatic in PilotLog, and your duty log will be created based on the rules you choose at this stage. Although you can change your settings later, and duties created before you set up the correct information may be inaccurate.

If you have flown before, you can enter your previous experience on each aircraft type (Tools->Previous Experience). These hours will when be included in your flying totals.
